For the Holocaust Museum Houston Butterfly Project they are collecting 1.5 million handmade butterflies to be part of a breathtaking exhibition scheduled for Spring 2013 to represent the 1.5 million children who perished in the Holocaust. All materials (except glitter and food perishable items like macaroni) are allowed and all ages of children are encouraged to submit butterflies as well as adults. Deadline June 30, 2012. See their website for more information: http://hmh.org/ed_butterfly1.shtml.

I recently completed three butterflies for the exhibit. I used the basic butterfly shape from my Blossoms & Butterflies Pattern and enlarged the pattern. Two of the butterflies are constructed of fabric and the third is a paper collage.

See our list of over 160 organizations that need handmade items to help comfort those in need: Helping Others Using Your Creative Skills.
