Title: "Southern Belles"
Year Completed: 2005
Quilt Size: 61"w x 61"h
Quilt Description: This is my favorite quilt of all the traditional ones I've made so far. It almost didn't get finished when I ran into a bit of a setback after completing the nine applique blocks. When I washed the blocks to remove the chalk guidelines, five of the blocks contained fabrics that bled. I put the quilt away for a while and then eventually made five new blocks, testing each fabric carefully beforehand! After the blocks were assembled, then the quilt sat for a couple of years before I could figure out a solution for the borders. It features a pieced back using some of of the leftover border pieces. The pattern appeared in Quilt OmniBook Spring 1987 called "Old Fashioned Girl Applique" and it says that is from the Collection of Ruby Hinson Duncan. It took 169 hours to make.
Materials: Cotton Fabrics, Recycled Clothing and Neckties, Polyester Batting.
Techniques: Machine Pieced, Needle Turn Applique, Hand-Quilted.
